Pratapgad Fort (प्रतापगड – जावळीचा रणसंग्राम)
The decisive mountain citadel overlooking the Jawali valley where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj vanquished Afzal Khan on 10 November 1659.
Historical Origins & Architectural Context
Constructed by Moropant Trimbak Pingle atop the Rohida crest to guard the Par Ghat and Kineshwar passes linking Satara with the Konkan. Strategically perched 24 km west of Mahabaleshwar on a steep ridge separating the Koyna valley from the Konkan coastal plains.
Set amidst the dense emerald canopy of the Jawali jungle, Pratapgad altered the destiny of the Indian subcontinent. On 10 November 1659, outnumbered Maratha forces utilized guerrilla mastery and terrain intelligence to rout the massive Adilshahi army in the surrounding valleys.
“जावळीच्या घनदाट खोऱ्यात प्रतापगडाच्या साक्षीने स्वराज्याचे अस्तित्व आणि सामर्थ्य जगासमोर सिद्ध झाले!”
