Malshej Ghat & Pimpalgaon Joga (माळशेज घाट – धबधबे व फ्लेमिंगो पर्व)
Dramatic mountain pass flanked by Harishchandragad and Ajobagad where ratusan monsoon waterfalls thunder across rock tunnels and Pink Flamingos winter at Pimpalgaon Joga.
Historical Origins & Architectural Context
Adjacent to the 2nd-century BCE Satavahana toll pass of Naneghat; connects the Konkan plains of Thane (Murbad) with the historic Kukadi and Pushpavati valleys of Junnar. Straddles the border of Thane (Murbad taluka) and Pune (Junnar taluka) districts, 120 km northeast of Mumbai and 120 km north of Pune.
Drive up the hairpin bends of Malshej Ghat from Murbad in July and the sheer basalt wall of the Western Ghats rises 2,500 feet straight above your windshield, veiled by fifty silver waterfalls plummeting out of the clouds.
“धुक्याची दुलई, कड्यावरून कोसळणारे शेकडो धबधबे आणि पिंपळगाव जोगा धरणावर उतरणारे गुलाबी रोहित पक्षी—निसर्गरम्य माळशेज घाट!”
