Bedekar Pickles & Spices (बेडेकर लोणचे व मसाले – १००+ वर्षांची परंपरा)
Over 115 years of authentic Maharashtrian Mango Pickle, Lime Pickle, and Thalipeeth Bhajani born in the historic lanes of Girgaon, Mumbai.
Historical Origins & Architectural Context
Started in 1910 by Vishwanath Parshuram (Tatya) Bedekar inside Mugbhat Lane, Girgaon, as a small provision store before launching ready-made traditional Hing-rich Mango Pickle in 1917. Rooted in Mumbai’s cultural citadel of Girgaon (Charni Road / Thakurdwar) with flagship stores across Dadar, Thane, and Pune.
In 1917, buying ready-made pickle from a shop was almost unheard of in orthodox Mumbai homes. When Tatya Bedekar placed a large porcelain Barni of homemade raw mango pickle seasoned with aromatic Hing and mustard dal on his Girgaon counter, Mumbai workers and homemakers queued down Mugbhat Lane.

Cultural Significance & Enduring Legacy
Four generations later, a spoonful of Bedekar Limbu or Kairi Lonche alongside hot Varan-Bhat or Thalipeeth remains the ultimate comfort food of Maharashtra.
Processes thousands of tons of raw Rajapuri mangoes, Kagzi lemons, and multigrain Thalipeeth Bhajani flours across modern facilities in Thane and Nashik. Maintains the exact Konkan-Brahmani stone-ground mustard pulse (Mohri Dal) and compounded asafoetida cure developed by Tatya and Vasudeorao Bedekar over a century ago.
