Historical Origins & Architectural Context

Developed as a hill station in 1880 by British Political Agent Colonel Westcott; houses the ancient cave shrine of Goddess Parvati (Hiranyakeshi) from where the Hiranyakeshi River originates. Last mountain ghat of southern Maharashtra before the Goa plains, located 30 km east of Sawantwadi along the Sawantwadi–Belagavi highway.

When the southwest monsoon slams against the southern wall of the Sahyadris, Amboli Ghat transforms into an amphitheater of roaring white water and swirling clouds. At Kavlesad Point, gale-force updrafts hurl entire waterfalls straight back up into the sky.
