Historical Origins & Architectural Context

Founded by Bhalchandra Digambar (Abasaheb) Garware (1903–1990), who transitioned from trading cars in Mumbai to setting up India’s first plastics button factory and first nylon fishing-net filaments. Headquartered in Pune with world-class manufacturing complexes at Chinchwad, Wai (Satara district), and Waluj (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar).

In the 1950s, Maharashtra’s coastal Koli fishermen lost their cotton fishing nets to rot after every single monsoon season. Abasaheb Garware revolutionized coastal livelihoods across India by introducing rot-proof synthetic nylon twine—personally visiting fishing villages along the Konkan coast to demonstrate its strength.
