Suhana / Pravin Masalewale (प्रवीण मसालेवाले / सुहाना – मसाल्यांचे साम्राज्य)
From hand-pounding spices at home and pedaling 25 km on a bicycle in 1962 to Maharashtra’s #1 spice powerhouse exported across 5 continents.
Historical Origins & Architectural Context
Founded in Pune in 1962 by Hukmichand Chordia and Kamalbai Chordia with just ₹250, hand-pounding Kanda-Lasun Masala and delivering packets door-to-door on a bicycle. Headquartered at Hadapsar Industrial Estate in Pune with sprawling automated processing complexes along the Pune–Solapur highway.
In 1962, making traditional Kanda-Lasun (onion-garlic) masala at home was an exhausting multi-day chore of sun-drying, roasting, and pounding in stone Khalbatta mortars. Kamalbai and Hukmichand Chordia changed Maharashtrian kitchens forever by bottling that exact wood-roasted, stone-pounded homemade aroma.
“सौ. कमलबाई आणि हुकमीचंद चोरडियांनी सायकलवरून सुरू केलेला प्रवास आज जगाच्या पाठीवर मराठी मसाल्यांचा सुगंध पसरवत आहे!”
